We are proud to announce that we can give the full information regarding our second Around the World in English 2011 conference. Its title: Logical Reasoning as a Universal Tool in Building International Teams.

Abstract

In this conference it will be shown how mathematics can be applied in constructing an efficient and powerful team working on a project. While resolving brain-teasers, members of the team use methods of valid logical reasoning and thus demonstrate their personal aptitudes which contribute to role and task division on teams.

Ms. Wroblewska specializes in Business English, English for Academic Purposes, and Communication Skills.

Abstract

Bob Harris is an American actor who takes a very large fee to appear in a commercial for Japanese whiskey to be shot in Tokyo. Bob meets Charlotte at his hotel’s bar. Twentysomething Charlotte is married to John, a successful photographer who is in Tokyo on an assignment, leaving her to while away her time while he works. Bob and Charlotte become fast friends, and as they explore Tokyo, they begin to wonder if their sudden friendship might be growing into something more.

Well, as the present academic year is nearing its end, the ILLLab’s activities can only get better. We are proud to announce that we will have two more speakers for our Around the World in English 2011 cicle of conferences. The first speaker will be Dr. Drasko Draskovic, a lecturer and researcher in our school who will talk about his experiences in life and science. The second one, Iwona Wroblewska, MA, member of the English Department in the Technical University of Lodz, will talk about Mathematics as the universal tool in communication.

Around the World in English: Conducting business around the world. What are the challenges?

Imagine living or working in another country, what types of things would you need to adapt to? In this talk I will explore the concept of culture and whether a common culture exists. I will also illustrate the ways in which culture affects people’s behaviour, in particular, when doing business. I will provide examples based on my experience of working in a range of countries.

Rupert Herington works at the University of Leeds, where he is Marketing Co-ordinator for the Language Centre with responsibility for recruiting international students to programmes at the university.
